Loyola Marymount 10, UT Arlington 5
Los Angeles, CA -- Loyola Marymount will advance in the 2018 Postseason NISC after defeating UT Arlington 10-5 at Smith Field Wednesday afternoon. The Lions will play the winner of UC Riverside and Eastern Kentucky on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. PT.
UT Arlington jumped to an early lead scoring three runs the top of the first inning. Senior Aileen Garcia singled to right field scoring Krista Rude, and Reagan Wright singled to right center scoring Garcia and Whitney Walton to take a 3-0 lead.
The lead didn’t last long as LMU came up to bat in the bottom of the first. Andrea Gonzalez would record an RBI single scoring Lindsey Matoi. With bases loaded, Alicia Brown would drill a shot over the left field fence for the grand slam, scoring Andrea Gonzalez, Delanie Wisz and Molly Grumbo. The Lions would end the inning up 5-3.
The Mavericks would tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the second off a Walton RBI double scoring sisters Sandra Mendoza and Melanie Mendoza. LMU would regain the lead in the third scoring two runs to go up 7-5. They would tack on three insurance runs in the sixth to secure the win.
LMU’s Brown would finish the game 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, home run and four RBI. Brown was named the NISC Regional MVP last week at Northern Colorado with a slugging percentage of 1.167 and batting average
UT Arlington will face the loser of UC Riverside vs Eastern Kentucky on Thursday at 10 a.m. PT.
