After playing five-plus innings Tuesday and seeing its game with Kennesaw State suspended because of weather, Lamar held on Wednesday morning for a 5-4 victory over the Owls to move into the championship game at the NISC.
The Cardinals (34-19), who were one of four at-large teams in the original NISC field, will play later Wednesday needing one victory to claim the NISC title.
In the game against Kennesaw State (40-19), pitcher Ciara Luna scattered eight hits and struck out seven batters. Brynn Baca had three hits and two RBI.
Kennesaw State’s Noelle Winkles had a triple and an RBI; Olivia Tamewitz added two hits. The Owls play Liberty (43-24) on Wednesday, with the winner emerging from the loser’s bracket to face Lamar for the title.
