LINCHBURG, VA – Liberty and Ohio needed a total of 19 innings to decide the champion in the regional. Flames fans rejoiced as they saw their team edge out Ohio, 4-3 in the final game Thursday.
Amber Bishop and Tori Zavodny each came away with two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Zavodny also recorded two stolen bases in the contest.
The valiant effort from the Bobcats ended on a day in which they played 26 full innings of softball. Taylor Saxton reached base safely in each of her two plate appearances and recorded two RBI.
Liberty clinches a spot in the championships of the inaugural NISC. Games are set to begin on May 21 for the six remaining teams.
